The hook is the most important 1.5 seconds of any piece of UGC. It determines whether your content gets watched or gets scrolled past — and by extension, whether it performs or flops. After creating hundreds of reels and analyzing what works, here are the 15 hook formulas I rely on most.

Problem-based hooks

Result-based hooks

Curiosity-based hooks

Social proof hooks

How to test hooks

Create 2-3 hook variations for every piece of content. Post the version you think is strongest, and if it underperforms, swap the hook and repost 48 hours later. Many of my highest-performing reels were second attempts with a different hook on the same content. The body can stay identical — the hook is where 80% of the performance difference lives.

The golden rule

Your hook must match your content. A sensational hook that leads to mediocre content will get views but tank your completion rate and algorithm reputation. The best hooks promise something specific that the video delivers on — that combination of expectation and satisfaction is what drives shares and saves.
